Josh Roper: Solo at X-Trial des Nations, New Team, and SSDT Plans

Josh Roper faced one of the toughest challenges of his career at X-Trial des Nations. This time, he competed solo against full national teams. In this episode of the On the Pegs Podcast, he shares that experience. He also talks through major offseason changes and his plans for the 2025 season.

Riding Solo at X-Trial des Nations

At the X-Trial des Nations, riders usually compete alongside teammates. However, that was not the case for Josh Roper.

After Ryon Land was sidelined with an injury, Roper had to ride alone. As a result, he took on every section without support. He also carried the full mental load of the event.

Even so, he stepped up to the challenge. In this episode, Roper explains how he adjusted his mindset. He also shares how he approached each section under pressure. As he describes it, competing solo changed the entire rhythm of the event.

A Season of Change: New Bike and Team

Beyond X-Trial, this offseason brought major changes.

First, Roper switched bikes multiple times. He moved from Gas Gas to Montesa, and now to Beta. In addition, he joined the TrialStoreUSA.com team.

At this level, bike changes are not simple. Each machine has a different feel and setup. Because of that, riders must adapt quickly. Roper talks about what drove these decisions. He also explains how the transition has gone so far.

As the season begins, he is continuing to build comfort on the new bike.

Looking Ahead to the Scottish Six Day Trial

Next, Roper is preparing for one of the biggest events of the year, the Scottish Six Day Trial.

The SSDT is known for long days, tough terrain, and unpredictable weather. Unlike X-Trial, it tests endurance over multiple days. Because of that, it requires a different approach.

Roper shares what he is focusing on this time around. He also talks about what he hopes to improve. For many riders, SSDT is a career highlight. For Roper, it remains a key goal each season.
